Description
This abstract piece of art was created in a spirit of fun as I got to draw with some new colored pens that my friend let me use. Its always fun to create in new medium as it comes out different than one is used to. Every time, I work with new medium, its a learning process to figure out how to make the medium work for me for what I want it to do.
In Hawaiian mythology, the Menehune [pronounced meh-neh-HOO-neh] are said to be a mischievous, magical, little people, but very skilled, with a supernatural strength, sometimes described as dwarfs in size, who live in the deep forests, hidden valleys the mountains of Pu'ukapele ("Hills of Pele") of the Hawaiian Islands, far from the eyes of normal humans. They come out mostly at night to play tricks on people, or to serve them if they feel that way inclined. The mythology of the Menehune is as old as the beginnings of Polynesian history. Their favorite food is the maiʻa (banana), but they also like fish. The Menehune were said to be superb craftspeople. There is no reliable history of the Menehunes. No one knows whence they came, though tradition says they were the original people of the Hawaiian Islands. They are thought to have been supernatural beings.
"Mele Kalikimaka" is a Hawaiian-themed Christmas song written in 1949 by Robert Alex Anderson. The song takes its title from the Hawaiian phrase, "Mele Kalikimaka," meaning "Merry Christmas".
